In February 2009, Randall Brown (left, in the Def Leppard British flag shirt, circa 1983) purchased the domain flashfiction.net from its previous owner, Preston Brady, who used it to market coffee cups imprinted with very short stories.

Randall Brown is the author of the award-winning (very) short fiction collection Mad to Live (Flume Press 2008). He is the Director of the MFA in Writing and Graduate English Literature programs at Rosemont College and holds an MFA from Vermont College and a BA from Tufts University--along with an M.Ed., a B.S. in Education, and a post-MFA Certificate in Vermont College's Picture Book program (with Kathi Appelt). Over 200 essays, interviews, short stories, poems, reviews, and short fiction pieces have appeared in a variety of journals, including Cream City Review, Quick Fiction, Concho River Review, Hunger Mountain, Connecticut Review, The Saint Ann's Review, The Evansville Review, The Laurel Review, Dalhousie Review, Cairn, upstreet, Clackamas Literary Review, Vestal Review, Stand Magazine, Folio, FRiGG and others--and his work has appeared in various anthologies, both here and abroad. His essay "Making Flash Count" appears in The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Writing Flash Fiction: Tips from Editors, Teachers, and Writers in the Field (Rose Metal Press 2009).

As editor with SmokeLong Quarterly from 2004-2009, he had the pleasure of reading thousands of submissions each year and publishing short shorts by W.P. Kinsella, Natalie Goldberg, Dan Chaon, Steve Almond, Stuart Dybek, Sherrie Flick, Robert Shapard, Melanie Rae Thon, Larry Fondation, Dorianne Laux, and many other exceptional writers. He's presented nationally for NSCI in Phoenix and Las Vegas. At the Highland Park Literary Festival, he presented workshops along with Billy Collins, Anchee Min, Kaye Gibbons, Christina Henriquez, Will Clarke, and a host of talented writers and teachers. Also, he's been the featured author and/or presenter at a number of readings and conferences in both New York City and Philadelphia. He currently lives outside of Philadelphia with his wife (a professional cabaret singer & dog trainer) and their two children, along with two bouncing Bichons.
