The flash fiction journal SmokeLong Quarterly has started a new feature, the Smokelong Weekly. The archives can be found here.
Also brand spankin' new, SmokeLong Video features a writer reading a flash. Click here to see Ellen Parker's "Home Pharmacy" read by Gabriel Orgrease.
SLQ has also continued with some faves, such as the Smoking With series, interviews of flash folks by staff members. The most recent features Tara Laskowski's conversation with Jason Reynolds, the founder and editor of Fiction Weekly.
Of course, SLQ still presents us quarterly with a kick-ass issue and incredible Marty Ison cover. Each flash piece includes a cool graphic and an interview. The most recent issue can be found here.
SLQ has a clear mission:
SmokeLong Quarterly is
dedicated to bringing the best flash fiction to the web on a quarterly
basis, whether written by widely published authors, or those new to the
craft. The term "smoke-long" comes from the Chinese, who noted that
reading a piece of flash takes about the same length of time as smoking
a cigarette. All the work we publish is precisely that--about a smoke
long.
I like this trend of online journals giving us a combination of ever-changing content along with their scheduled issue. SLQ is one of many excellent journals to be found online. Check them out and discover (or rediscover) the brilliance of flash.
