Flash strug­gles with show­ing sig­nif­i­cant change in such a short
space. Find­ing that moment when a char­ac­ter sees some­thing before under­stand­ing
it, that moment when some­thing hid­den now comes into view. Imag­ine the boy at
the end of Joyce’s “Ara­by”:
I saw myself as a crea­ture. What can your char­ac­ter now see in a
flash.
